A zoo in Eastern China is getting a lot of attention because of a video and a single burning question:
Is this sun bear, named Angela, really a bear or is that a human in disguise?
Look closer. The straight posture, that saggy skin, is she waving?
And few bears have clawed their way to internet fame quite like Angela, who went viral when a video showing her odd stance was posted to Chinese social media.
The viral video has forced zoo officials to bear all with a tongue-in-cheek statement on Angela's behalf.
"Some people thought the way I stand up looks too human," the statement said. "So I will stress again: I'm a sun bear!"
We asked the zoo's deputy director about all the talk of fakes.
"I promise it's real," he said, "Seeing is believing. People can come and see for themselves."
Experts explain that Malaysian sun bears, with their orange or creamy colored chest fur, are much smaller and slimmer than, say, a grizzly, and have huge claws for climbing.
As for the baggy pants, "The extra skin is a really important adaptation for sun bears, so it's actually to avoid predators."
Attendance at the zoo has jumped by 30 percent thanks to people scrambling to catch a glimpse of Angela and bear witness to all the hype.
