The aftermath shows a burned-out floor, as the remains of a private coal company bear witness to the tragic fire that ripped through the building in Lyuliang, Shanxi Province.

but the burned site, a second-floor bathroom used by coal miners, shows the severity of the tragedy.

The toll stands at 26 lives lost, with 38 people injured. They're now receiving treatment at the First Renmin Hospital, in Lyuliang.
此次事故共造成26人死亡，38人受伤。他们目前正在吕梁市第一人民医院接受救治。
"Our Department of Critical Care Medicine received seven severely injured people rescued from the fire.
“我们的重症医学科接收了火灾中的7名重伤人员。
Four of them are using breathing machines. The other three have had a high flow of oxygen intake. They're now all in a stable condition."
其中4人在使用呼吸机。其他3人都有高流量的氧气摄入。他们现在都处于稳定状态。”
A news conference held in Lyuliang on Friday provided details of the incident.

A minutes' silence was held at the beginning, in a mark of respect to the victims.

"As the mayor, I give my deepest condolence to the 26 victims, and my deepest apology to their families. With a heavy heart, I want to say sorry to them."

Officials then discussed the challenging conditions faced by firefighters.

"Our initial calculations show the fire burned over about 900-square meters.

There were remains of over 200 sets of lockers, which separated the space into several areas, as well as over 1,700 sets of hanging baskets where the workers put their clothes, boots and other items."

Local officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
