German Chancellor Angela Merkel says she agrees with Hungary on “the need for a common European border protection”to keep the Schengen EU borders open borders agreement alive, and she says the union's outer border needs better protection. Merkel was speaking at an event on the Hungarian Austrian border to mark the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Iron Curtain. She said people smugglers had to be stopped although she's still differed with Hungarian premier Viktor Orban on how exactly to handle migrants who are in Europe with a right to stay. During a visit to Berlin in January urban said no compromise as possible with Germany over migration amid what he called “constant pressure” from Berlin on his government to take in immigrants.
