The United States has tested a new ground-based cruise missile weeks after withdrawing from a Cold War-era treaty with Russia. The Pentagon said the test took place Sunday on an island off the coast of Los Angeles. The missile which was not nuclear equipped hit its target after flying more than 500 kilometers. Officials said the test will provide more data to America’s development of intermediate-range capabilities. The test comes more than two weeks after the US pulled out of the intermediate range nuclear forces treaty which it signed with a former Soviet Union in 1987. Washington claimed Moscow was violating the treaty and Moscow has denied the accusation.
