Shanghai is China's eastern gate to the outside world in 1074 in the Song Dynasty, Shanghai developed from a small village into a market town. During the Qing Dynasty, Shanghai was one of several cities opened to foreign trade. After 1842, the establishment of Shanghai International Settlement turned Shanghai into commercial connection between east and west. From the 1950s, Shanghai has become China's foreign trade center and one of the most important and busiest sea ports in the world. Now Shanghai has become the symbol of modernized Chinese city.
