Unit 13 The Farmer And The Fox
There was a rich farmer who owned many fields.
He also kept ducks and hens.
They gave him eggs and sometimes he ate one for his dinner.
One night in winter a fox came to the farm.
There was snow on the ground,
and the animal was cold and hungry.
It killed one of the hens and took it away to eat for its own dinner.
The next morning the farmer counted his hens.One was missing.
He saw blood on the ground. 'A fox has been here,' he said.
'I can catch it if I set a trap for it.'
He set a trap for the fox and that night the fox came to his farm again.
Before it could kill another hen,it put its foot in the trap.
It could not move and was in great pain.
In the morning the farmer found the fox in the trap.
'If you'll let me go, I'll never your hens again,'the fox said.
The farmer laughed. 'If I let you go,' he said,'next time you'll steal my ducks.'
'It is winter,' the fox said.
'I was cold and hungry.
I took only one old hen to eat,''Yes,' the farmer said,
'and I going to punish you for it.'
He tied some dry straw to the fox's tail and set it on fire.
The fox was soon in great pain.
'Kill me quickly,' it begged,let me burn to death slowly.'
The farmer, who was a very cruel man,just laughed.
The fox struggled in the trap.It managed to escape.
It ran into the farmer's house.
Soon the house was buring.Before long the whole farm was on fire.
The cruel farmer destroyed his own farm.

The farmer can catch the fox if he sets a trap for it.
If the farmer lets the fox go,it will never steal the farmer's hens again.
If the farmer lets the fox go,it will steal his ducks next time.
Conversation
Tom can't do his homework.He wants some help from his brother, Peter.
Tom:If you'll help me, I'll pay you ten dollars.
Peter:I can earn twenty dollars if I clean Dad's car.
Tom:I haven't got twenty dollars.
Peter:All right.I'll help you if you clean my shoes as well.
Tom:It's deal!
