China’s urban jobless rate at 4.08% for Q1
第一季度城市失业率4.08%
At the top of the program, we look at fresh employment data released by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.
Despite an economic slowdown, China created 3.44 million new jobs in cities in the first three months of this year, according to data released on Friday.
That brings the urban jobless rate down slightly to 4.08 percent. The figure at the end of December was 4.1 percent. Also one notable change is that the number of people taking the civil servants' exam is down. 360,000 fewer people registered to take part in the exams to be held across 21 provinces so far this year compared to last year.
According to the ministry, although the economy grew at a slower pace, the increase of each percentage point of GDP actually produced more jobs than before due to an improving economic structure. Beijing has repeatedly stressed that employment is the first priority for the government.
