In India, rice replaces ice in bucket challenge
The overwhelming success of the "ice" bucket challenge has inspired a journalist in India to launch her own challenge --replacing ice with rice. In the ice bucket challenge people dump a bucket of ice water over their head to encourage donations to a charity. In this new twist a bucket of rice is donated to someone in need. The movement's Facebook page defines it as a "local challenge for local needs" and has clocked tens of thousands of 'likes'. But it's getting international support. Germany's ambassador to India on Tuesday delivered rice to families in a New Delhi slum.

Iconic Rio statue is lit up to raise awareness of human trafficking
The iconic Christ the Redeemer statue that looks out over this view of Rio de Janeiro was the gathering point on Wednesday for Brazilians whose loved ones have disappeared. The event organized by the Achrdiocese of Rio also marked the so called "Day of Alert" to call attention to the fight against human trafficking and to try to solve the case of missing persons. One woman said the pain of not knowing what happened to her 29-year-old is almost unbearable.

To get the message out as widely as they could, the organizers bathed the statue in an orange light that could be seen throughout the city. The United Nations calls human trafficking one of the most "shameful crimes" affecting the lives of millions around the world.
