EU leaders to discuss extension of sanctions on Russia
欧盟领导人商讨增加对俄罗斯制裁
The EU is considering to extend sanctions on Russia for another half year. European Council President Donald Tusk says the issue is on the agenda of the two-day summit that started Thursday.
Media reports are saying that most member states have a common ground to extend the sanctions. Only Italy’s position is not clear yet.
The EU, along with the U.S. and other allies, imposed sanctions on Russia last year since its annexation of Crimea from Ukraine. The sanctions contributed to the collapse of the Russian rouble last year and have created severe financial hardship for the regional power.
