English speakers always follow grammar rules. Right?
英语使用者总是遵守语法规则,对吗?
Then why does the genie from Aladdin say,
那么为什么阿拉丁神灯里的精灵说:
'You ain't never had a friend like me?'
“你永远不会有像我这样的朋友?"
Didn't your teacher say you should never use a double negative?
老师不是说双重否定表示肯定吗?
And why does Elton John say "If I was a sculptor"?
还有为什么歌手艾尔顿·约翰说“如果我是一个雕塑家”?
Shouldn't that be were? If I were a sculptor?
难道不应该用were吗?虚拟语气I与were连用。
Learn about three grammar rules that English speakers ignore in this Mini English Lesson.
今天的迷你英语课将告诉你英语使用者可以忽视的三条语法规则。

If I was the teacher, I would have let us go home five minutes early.
如果我是老师,我会让大家提前5分钟回家。
No, it should be if I were the teacher, I would have let us go home five minutes early.
不,这个句子里的was应该变成were。
You probably read in a textbook that you should use 'were' when making a second conditional with the subject pronouns I, he, she and it,
你可能在教科书里读到,在第二条件句中,主格I, he, she, it应该与were连用,
but English speakers often use was when making a second conditional in natural conversation.
但是在自然的对话中,英语使用者经常会在第二条件句中用was。
So Elton John says "If I was a sculptor, but then again, no."
所以艾尔顿·约翰唱道:“如果我是一个雕塑家,但不。”
I apologize for my singing.
为我的歌喉向大家道歉。
Me and my friend are gonna play video games later today.
我和朋友今天晚些时候要玩视频游戏。
No. It should be my friend and I are going to play video games later today.
不对,这个句子里的me应该变成I。
You've probably heard from your teacher that you shouldn't say 'me and someone', and instead you should say 'someone and I'.
你的老师可能说过,不能说me and sb(我和某人),而应该说sb and I(某人和我)。
And technically that is grammatically correct because I is the subject pronoun and me is the object pronoun.
严格来说,这在语法上是正确的,因为I是主格,me是宾格。
But English speakers just often ignore this in casual conversation and always just say 'me and someone'.
但英语使用者总是在日常对话中忽视这条规则,直接说me and sb(我和某人)。
I prefer to play with someone who is actually good, but he is my friend, so I can't not play with him.
我喜欢和技术好的人一起玩游戏,但他是我的朋友,所以我不能不和他一起玩。
Actually, you should say I must play with him or I should play with him.
其实你应该说:我必须和他一起玩或者我应该和他一起玩。
Never use a double negative. Silly.
永远不要用双重否定,笨蛋。
You might have heard from your teacher that you should never use a double negative, but English speakers use double negatives from time to time.
老师可能说永远不要用双重否定,但英语使用者经常用双重否定。
For example, in the sentence, I can't not play with him, the speaker is emphasising their obligation to play with their friend.
比如在“我不能不和他一起玩”这个句子中,说话者在强调他必须和朋友一起玩的义务。
It's more of an internal feeling than must or should and has a stronger emphasis on the obligation that they should play with their friend.
这更多的是一种内心情感,而不是必须或应该要做的事,而且更强调了要和朋友一起玩的义务。
And now we have a bonus grammar rule.
接着有一个补充的语法规则。
This isn't really a grammar rule that people get wrong, but a lot of people say that this is incorrect. So that's why it's a bonus.
这条规则不一定是错的,但很多人认为这样是不正确的,所以这条规则是补充性的。
We've got a new student joining today.
今天会有一个新学生加入我们。
Oh, what time are they coming?
哦,他们什么时候来?
No. What time is he or she coming? It's just one person.
不对,应该是他或她,只有一个人。
You might have heard that you can only use they as a plural.
你可能听说they只能表示复数。
But you can also use they as a singular pronoun too.
但也可以用作单数。
You can use it when you don't know the gender of the person because you haven't met them before,
你可以用单数they,如果你不知道那个人的性别,因为你从没见过那个人,
or you can use it when you're talking about someone in general.
或者如果你在泛指某个人的时候,也可以这样用。
We actually have a Mini English Lesson on this, so check out Kate's video on using they in the link above.
之前有迷你英语课讲过这个内容,所以请查看凯特的这个关于they的用法的视频。
Right. Me and a couple of friends are gonna go sightseeing in Paris now.
好的,我和几个朋友现在要去巴黎观光了。
If I wasn't so scared of heights, I'd probably go up the Eiffel Tower.
要是我没这么恐高,我可能会登上埃菲尔铁塔。
But seeing as I'm already here, I can't not go up it.
但是我来都来了,就不能不上去看看了。
