Taylor Swift's Eras tour was one of the most successful of all time.

There's no doubt that our queen Tay Tay is on top of the world.

Even if you don't listen to her songs, you've definitely heard them.

Even if you think you haven't, you have.

Look, we all know our queen writes great songs about boys and heartbreak,

but she also writes great songs about her relationship with the media, and her reputation,

which coincidentally is the name of the album our first song today comes from.

I'm going to explain some of my favourite Taylor Swift lyrics that are about her reputation and her relationship with the press.

Lyric number one today is "Look what you made me do, look what you made me do, look what you made me."

The lyrics seem quite simple, but they're not.

"Look what you made me do" implies that she did something she didn't want to.

"Look what you made me" shows that she turned into something else, like she stopped trusting people as much.

The simple addition of omitting or adding just that one word "do" changes the meaning of the sentence completely.

The play on words is brilliant and so very catchy. Of course.

Lyric number two.

You need to calm down. You're being too loud.

This song was written about the fight she had with the rapper Kanye West and his ex wife Kim Kardashian.

When the media responded to how she talked about that, and said that she was being too much, she was being too loud, and they told her to calm down.

"Calm down" means to relax or be less angry about the situation.

The "being too loud" part could be taken figuratively or literally.

Literally, you're being too loud. You're making too much noise,

Or figuratively, like I said before, you're being too much, too extra.

Too loud is often used against members of the LGBTQ+ community.

And in fact, Taylor references GLAAD, a society that fights for LGBTQ+ rights, in this song.

And she has the cast of Queer Eye in the video.

So this song became somewhat of an anti-hate anthem.

What an icon!

Lyric number three is one of the first songs that made me pay attention to Taylor.

Shake it off. Shake it off.

Here again, she's talking about her relationship with the media and about how the media loves to criticise her, but she's not gonna let it bother her.

She's gonna forget about it and continue with her life.

The final lyric we'll talk about today is is...

New money, suit and tie. I can read you like a magazine.

Ain't it funny? Rumours fly and I know you heard about me.

Sing with me!

"New money, suit and tie" refers to superficial material thingsbecause the press say that her relationships have no depth.

They're just superficial.

So she's responding to that.

When she says I can read you like a magazine, she's directly referring to a form of media here, which is clever,

but she's also talking about the fact that she can read her potential lover.

Like, she can just look at that person and know what they're thinking or know how they're feeling.

Ain't it funny? Rumours fly.

"Ain't" here is like a spoken word of isn't, and it comes from AAVE, African-American Vernacular English.

And it's in a lot of songs, and Taylor's are no exception.

Rumours fly is a strong collocation about how news, especially gossip or rumours, get told again and again.

And that's why she says I know you've heard about me because Taylor is often the topic of gossip columns.

Many Swifties believe that because Travis Kelce is her thirteenth boyfriend, there are no more blank spaces.

So she'd have no more names to write, as in he's endgame.

So did I leave out any of your favourite Taylor lyrics?

Write them in the comments and we'll have a singalong later on.
