The Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army has conducted joint exercises around Taiwan.

Senior Colonel Shi Yi says the army, navy, air and rocket forces close in on the island from several directions during the drill.
大校施毅表示，在演训中，陆军、海军、空军、火箭军等部队从多个方向抵近台湾岛。
They aim to test joint combat capabilities with the focus on sea-air combat-readiness patrols, assault on maritime and ground targets and blockades of key areas and sea lanes.
演习的目的是测试联合作战能力，重点是海空作战准备巡逻、对海上和地面目标的攻击以及对关键地区和海上通道的封锁。

Eastern Theater Command spokesperson says the drills serve as a warning against separatist forces, and are a legitimate and necessary action to safeguard China's sovereignty and national unity.

Meanwhile, China Coast Guard says its fleets have patrolled the waters surrounding Taiwan.
