The Fathomless Sea
Hsu Chih-Mo
The fathomless sea and heaven I do not want,
Nor do I wish to fly a giant kite
To catch the upper wind from every side;
I only want a moment,
I only want a gleam of light,
I only want a crevice—
Like a child in a dark room
Curled in the window seat,
Gazing upon the ever-open gap
Below the western sky, —
Merely for one minute,
A gleam of light.
