方济各本名豪尔赫·马里奥·贝戈利奥（Jorge Mario Bergoglio），1936年出生于阿根廷布宜诺斯艾利斯，2013年当选罗马教皇，是历史上首位来自拉丁美洲的教皇。美国《华盛顿邮报》称，方济各任期内推行多项改革，如增强女性在教会中的决策权、教会成员“多元化”等。他还主张俭朴生活，摒弃高级神职人员的一些特权。此外，他还广泛关注气候变化、贫富差距等社会问题。
