Clashes in Santiago as students demand education reform
圣地亚哥学生要求教育改革
Anger erupts on the streets of Santiago. With stray dogs in tow, thousands of students clash with riot police. Demanding free education, the students are asking for greater participation in reform discussions, currently driven by the government. The students claim these discussions must involve social organizations... since it was these very organizations that called for reform in the first place. Back in 2011, students started a wave of protests demanding free, high-quality education. The government estimates 25,000 people took to the streets again for this protest.

Thai coup leader Prayuth Chan-ocha nominated as prime minister
泰国军事政变领导人巴育被提名总理
The Thai parliament elects current military junta Prayuth Chan-Ocha as the country's new prime minister. In a vote of 191 in favor, and none against, Pryuth is awarded the title from a parliament he had picked. Prayuth seized power in May during a coup after six months of sometimes deadly protests against then Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. Although his appointment paves the way for an interim government to be set up in the coming weeks, power will remain firmly in the junta's hands. The general has said he plans to press ahead with a year of political reforms before new elections in late 2015.
