Dayjia is a manufacturing engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab.

She's also a musician.

Let's get back to where it all started.
让我们回到一切开始的地方。
Dayjia's love of Science all began when she was growing up in St. Louis.
戴嘉在圣路易斯长大，这也是她对科学的热爱的起源。
I grew up on the south side of St. Louis, Missouri, in a single parent household with my mom.
我在密苏里州圣路易斯市南部长大。我生活在单亲家庭，母亲一直在抚养我。
I got into Science because of a program that my mom kicked on doors to get me into.
妈妈曾经为我安排课题，她带我走进科学，我因此非常热爱科学。
They expose us to different Science topics such as Robotics, Chemistry, you name it.
妈妈的安排让我接触到不同的科学课题，比如机器人学、化学，应有尽有。
In college, Dayjia studied engineering management
戴嘉在大学修读的是工程管理，
while there she faced more than just challenging school work.
当时她面临许多非常有挑战性的课业。
A lot of times in class I was the only female
很多时候，我是课堂上唯一的女性，
I was the only black female,
也是唯一的黑人女性，
sometimes people didn't wanna sit by you.
有些时候，别人不想和你坐在一起，
Sometimes people didn't wanna help you,
有些时候，别人不想帮你，
you know I would see a lot of time that people would have their, I'm trying not to cry.
你知道，很多时候，我会看到人们……我在尽量不哭。
People would have their little groups that they would study with then I would have to, like infiltrate.
别人都会组成小团体，他们一起学习，我必须想办法融入其中，
Like how can I bond with that group so that I can get the same resources that my people don't have?
我得思考如何才能和别人的群体建立联系，这样我才等得到一些我没有的资源。
But I figured it out.
但我做到了。
Of course she figured it out.
她当然做到了。
Which brings us to NASA.
接下来到达美国宇航局。
Dayjia is part of a team building rocket ships.
戴嘉是火箭飞船建造团队的一员。
They take an engineer's idea and figure out how to make it a reality which is pretty freakin' cool.
他们的团队会采纳工程师的构想，并想办法进行实现，这太酷了。
Now remember a minute ago when we mentioned Dayjia was also a musician?

She wrote a song about science to the tune of Soulja Boy's "Crank That".
她用Soulja Boy的单曲《Crank That》的旋律写了一首关于科学的曲子。
I'm just writing and I'm like "Yo, this is hot".

Dayjia realized that through music, you could open up a whole new audiences' eyes to the world of science.
戴嘉意识到，音乐能够让观众开阔眼界，让他们看到科学世界。
Something she wish she had when she was young.

It's not just writing a song and that's it like actually take a step further and a mentor to a lot of students
这不只是创作歌曲，实际上这算是去指导并引领一些学生，
who either are interested in science or already in college and just need that extra push to continue and finish.

I wanna show through my life that you can be an engineer, you can be a musician.
