CEO admits GM fell short in catching deadly safety problem
通用汽车延迟召回缺陷车被多方调查
General Motors announced new recalls of 1.5 million vehicles on Monday, mainly from its North American market.
The recall includes car types such as Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia. In an unprecedented public admission, GM chief executive Mary Barra acknowledged that the company fell short in catching a problem with faulty ignition switches, and that likely caused up to 12 deaths.
GM first began investigating the switches in 2004 and the recall has led to government criminal and civil investigations, congressional hearings and class-action lawsuits in the United States and Canada. All ask why GM took so long to address the problem.
