Consumers feeling the pinch in Moscow

Filling a grocery cart in Moscow is getting more expensive. A combination of Western imposed sanctions over Ukraine, a retaliatory ban on Western food imports as well as a plummeting rouble have spurred inflation in Russia. Consumers are feeling the pinch.
在莫斯科,装满一个购物车需要越来越多的钱 。西方因乌克兰问题实施的制裁和报复性禁止进口西方食品的措施,以及卢布汇率下跌的综合作用导致俄罗斯通货膨胀 。消费者感觉到了这种痛苦 。
(SOUNDBITE) (Russian) CUSTOMER, LYUDMILA, SAYING: "We feel it almost every day. Of course it does hurt us, but for now it is bearable."

Russians hitting the store after the long New Year holidays, say prices are only moving higher.

(SOUNDBITE) (Russian) CUSTOMER, KONSTANTIN, SAYING: "Yes, I feel it very much. I was just telling the cashier that the price for sugar has almost doubled. If I knew where it was going I might have bought more. What else? Sausage is more expensive. Meat and milk products are more expensive, mostly cheeses, cottage cheese and milk."
消费者KONSTANTIN:“是的,我的感受非常深刻 。我刚刚还和收银员说,糖的价格几乎翻倍 。如果我知道价钱上涨的这么高我以前肯定会多买一些的 。还有什么?香肠也更贵了 。肉和奶也更贵了,大部分奶酪,干酪和牛奶都涨价了 。”
There have been no major protests over the economic crisis so far. And Russian president Vladimir Putin's popularity soared after Russia annexed the Crimea last March. But critics warn Putin risks a wave of protests if prices rise sharply in the coming months.
目前为止还没有针对这场经济危机的重大抗议活动 。而且去年三月份俄罗斯吞并克里米亚之后总统普京的支持率飞速上升 。但是批评家警告称,如果未来几个月物价继续飞速上涨,普京将面临抗议活动 。
Police fire tear gas in Peru protest

Police in Peru fire tear gas to break up about 5,000 protesters on Thursday night. The demonstrators are angry about a new labour law that will take away some employment benefits for young people. The government says that will make them more attractive to companies and create more jobs in that age group. But protesters in Lima disagree.

Dozens were arrested by police after a night of protests that spread to other cities in the country.

Security level raised after 'anti-terror' raids: Belgium PM

Prime Minister Charles Michel raises Belgium's national security level to three, on a four-point scale. The announcement came after police raided several locations across the country against an Islamist group suspected to be planning attacks. Two men who opened fire were killed. 比利时总理米歇尔(Charles Michel)将共分四级的国家安全警戒水平提高到三级 。此前,警方突袭了全国各地几个地点,打击涉嫌筹划袭击的伊斯兰组织 。开枪的两名男子被击毙 。
(SOUNDBITE) (French) BELGIAN PRIME MINISTER, CHARLES MICHEL, SAYING: "We are not aware of any specific or concrete threats, however in the situation we can consider it is useful to raise the level of prudence and vigilance. That concretely means that complementary measures of protection and security will be taken which for evident reasons we are not going to communicate."

Belgium is the latest country to raise its security alert after France, who has lifted it to its highest level after gunmen killed 17 people in Paris. Authorities say there are no links between the two Islamist groups.
